Finnish envoy raps Indian tax laws
KOLKATA, MARCH 11:
Aapo Polho, Ambassador of Finland to India, has said that taxation issues have diminished India’s attractiveness to global investors, including Finnish companies.
Referring to mobile handset-maker Nokia’s conflict with the Indian Government over double taxation, he said, “The company (Nokia) played by the book”.
“Over the past couple of years, tax issues, retrospective taxation and regulatory issues have hurt the image of India abroad…. What used to be seen as a predictable investment destination has become less predictable. This is a bit unfortunate,” Polho told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on bilateral trade between India and Finland organised by Bharat Chamber of Commerce (BCC) on Monday.
“I wish Indian and Finnish companies would be able to form partnerships beneficial to both,” he added.
