Isle of Man business to see Chinese link-up ‘benefits’
A visit to China by twelve Isle of Man delegates could soon produce “tangible results” for the Manx economy, according to the chief minister.
On Wednesday Allan Bell signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the northern Chinese port of Tianjin.
The agreement concretes an alliance aiming to provide “mutually beneficial trade and technical links”.
Mr Bell said: “We have shown how we can support Chinese businesses seeking to expand in the UK and Europe.”
He added: “Strengthening co-operation is the key to opening up new business opportunities for both parties and I hope we will soon see some tangible benefits.”
The MOU was officially signed by the Chief Minister and Mr Ni Xiangyu, Chairman of the Administration Commission of Tianjin Binhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Area.
The Manx government said a joint committee will now be formed to develop economic, trade, cultural, scientific, agricultural and technical links between the areas.
Tianjin is located in the north east of China and is dubbed the “city of the future”- it has a population of about 12 million.
