Switzerland, Italy Talk Tax Cooperation
Swiss and Italian foreign ministers recently met to discuss taxation, finance, transport, and other cross-border issues.
Didier Burkhalter, head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, received Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni for official talks in Bern on May 28.
The ministers welcomed the bilateral agreement on finance and taxation signed in February. It amends their double tax agreement to incorporate the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) standard for the exchange of information upon request.
Burkhalter and Gentiloni also expressed their confidence that a new agreement on the taxation of cross-border commuters will be concluded soon. Burkhalter noted that a solution to finance and tax issues in this area will open the doors to closer economic relations between Switzerland and Italy.
