Clubs Australia and AGA Partner Against Illegal Gambling
Clubs Australia and the American Gaming Association (AGA) to Join Forces to Table Illegal Online Gambling
Trade Association Clubs Australia made recent headlines releasing a statement that confirms its partnership with the American Gaming Association to tackle an ongoing problem that has created an analogous situation with the ‘Wild West’. The statement said the two organizations are ready to ‘table illegal gambling websites.’
Anthony Ball, Clubs Executive Director commented,
“What we have had with the advent of the internet and online gambling is activity on phones and tablets that is unregulated – it’s the Wild West. You have companies who operate in tax havens internationally, providing these services to Australians illegally.”
“It’s well past time to take the threat of these illegal gambling operations seriously. The proliferation of illegal online gambling is a scourge that needs to be tackled by governments world-wide, in association with legal and regulated gaming operators. Put simply, these sites are unethical and unsafe. There are no age verification checks, no harm-minimisation measures, and the revenue they generate goes to offshore tax havens – not back to the community.” – Clubs Australia Executive Director Anthony Ball
Ball strongly agrees that that taking an international approach is long overdue. Ball made some uncorroborated accusations bringing up key points with intonations saying “illegal offshore sites could be used for money laundering and terrorism financing.” Ball claims that on average Americans and Australians together spend $4 billion USD and $1.2 billion AUS a year on illegal gambling websites each year.
The American Gaming Association and Ball’s organization will work closely together to provide pertinent details of illegal gambling operators to respective government officials to be successful of website closure. Additional commitments will be forcefully in place so that government agencies have a more energetic force of laws against all illegal operators.
“There’s a clear difference between illegal operators and the licensed, regulated industry. Our partnership with Clubs Australia will help to shine a spotlight on shady outfits that don’t create jobs, contribute vital tax revenue, protect players or serve as strong community partners.” – Sara Rayme, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs
