Angola adopts new Tax Identification Number
The new Tax Identification Number (NIF) of Angola for individuals and companies goes into effect on 1 October, said on Friday in Luanda, the head of the Registration and Collection Directorate of the General Tax Administration (AGT).
The entry into operation of the new NIF, which will be the same as the number of the Identity Card for national citizens and the resident card for foreigners, will make the NIFs of type 1 (for individuals), type 2 (for individuals with business interests), type 5 (for companies subject to industrial tax) and type 7 (for entities exempt from industrial tax).
The process put in place by the AGT, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, will be implemented in a phased manner.
The AGT’s Director of Registration and Collection, Shinya Jordão, said this process from October to December 2018 will cover Type 1 taxpayers, referring to the group of “Individuals” regardless of whether or not they are involved in business activities, and later changes will be made to the other types.
In the future, there will be only two types of NIF, one being assigned to “Individuals” and another to “Companies.”
Jordão recalled that a citizen can currently have several NIFs, which causes “a proliferation of tax evasion and avoidance,” according to the Angolan press.
During the transition period (September, October, November and December), the old Tax Identification Numbers will be used alongside the new NIFs, and from January 2019 public and private entities will only accept the new Tax Identification Number adapted to the Identity Card and to the Resident Card.
