Rs 29,000 cr tax evaded in seven months
GST hacking software to evade tax available in market. Informants to get 20% as reward
Thrissur: Despite the implementation of GST, tax evasion remains a major problem. The Directorate General of GST Intelligence has registered cases against 1835 organisations for evading tax using software. The officials have found indirect tax evasion amounting to Rs 29,088 cr in seven months. The evaders use a software to hack the GST network and file bogus returns.
Reward for informants
The officials have announced 20 percent of the evaded amount as reward for informants. Besides the general public, police officers, BSF jawans, coast guard and CISF officials can claim the reward. The reward will be 20 percent of the evaded amount, penalty and interest combined.
Fine collection remains nominal
Although tax evasion to the tune of Rs 29,088 crore was found, only Rs 5427 crore was recovered, including penalty. Out of this, Rs 3124 crore is from GST, Rs 2174 crore is from service tax and Rs 129 was excise duty.
