ICSS to hold special session on financial integrity and transparency
June 8 – With the international spotlight focused on corruption and money-laundering at FIFA and doping claims in athletics, the Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) is laying on a specialist session in Geneva in September to explore how sport, governments and the wider stakeholder community can tackle the issues and come up with ideas for robust reform.
The Financial Integrity and Transparency in Sport (FITS) forum will examine
the critical next steps for sport and is part of the ICSS’s ongoing drive to develop a coordinated international approach to protecting sport in the face of the huge economic and commercial growth of the industry in recent years.
The FITS Project will, for the first time, provide a fact-based analysis of the existing issues, covering topics such as Third party ownership, offshore investment funds, money laundering, tax evasion and other financial malpractice in sport.
“We believe there must be a strong, credible and coordinated international approach to safeguarding sport,” said ICSS president Mohammed Hanzab.
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, CEO of ICSS EUROPE and leader of the FITS global project, added: “As recent events have shown, more than ever, change is vital. We urge the world’s leaders in sport to join us at the forefront of the fight for effective financial integrity and transparency in sport.”
