Iranian ambassador takes office in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov received the copies of credentials of Iran’s new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Bahman Agharazi Dormani, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the status and priority areas of Uzbek-Iranian cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres.
They reiterated mutual interest in intensifying the ties in the transport and communications sphere.
Further, the sides exchanged views on some issues of the international and regional politics.
Diplomatic relations between Iran and Uzbekistan were established in May 1992. To date, the two countries have signed over 30 agreements defining the principles and areas of bilateral cooperation.
Trade and economic ties between the two countries are regulated by the agreements “On trade and economic cooperation”, “On mutual encouragement and protection of investments”, “On avoiding double taxation and exchange of information on taxes on income and capital” as well as a number of intergovernmental memoranda.
Currently over 120 joint Iranian-Uzbek companies operate in Uzbekistan. The activities of these companies cover the production of consumer goods, textiles and agricultural products, carpets, services, implementation of export and import operations.
The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Iran exceeded $250 million as of 2014, according to Iranian embassy.
