Broker denies tax fraud
Norway’s organisation which investigates economic crimes, Økokrin, has accused Stein Harald Schie, 63, of hiding NOK485m from the taxman, according to Norwegian daily E24.
The brokern disputes that he has withheld tax and said via his defender Nicolai V. Skjerdal that he lives abroad.
In a four-page document the Norwegian authorities list income they claim Schie has had when working with among others Pareto Offshore and John Fredriksen’s Seatankers. The claims cover the period from 2005 to 2013.
Schie is well known in the Norwegian financial scene, and has a worked as a rig broker in a company named Norwegian Offshore Consultants that was acquired by Pareto and renamed Pareto Offshore, writes E24.
Schie moved from Norway 17 years ago but he still sits on a property and a fleet of cars in Norway including a 2004 model Rolls-Royce, one Corvette, one Audi R8 and a Lamborghini.
