One held for service tax evasion

SURAT: Central excise arrested Nirav Pramod Desai for evasion of service tax to the tune of Rs 60 lakh on Monday. He was sent to jail for 11 days by a court. Desai is proprietor of High Tech Engineers, Surat. In the period from 2009-10 to 2012-13, he had collected service tax worth Rs 61 lakh from his customers, but deposited only Rs 1 lakh with the government, sources said.
