Argentina: Tax Haven for Cars Probed by Agents
Argentine authorities say they have found a tax haven for luxury cars near one of the world’s largest deposits of shale oil and gas.
Tax agents in Buenos Aires province said Wednesday that evaders have registered some 20,000 cars near the Vaca Muerta (Dead Cow) deposit in Neuquen province. The owners live thousands of miles away and officials say they were lured by lower taxes in Neuquen.
Some 7,500 cars, including marks like Ferrari, Audi, BMW and Porsche, have been registered just at one lot in San Patricio de Chanar. The town has a population of 6,000 people, and the car owners reside in faraway provinces.
