Malaysia, Liechtenstein agree to enhance bilateral ties
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Liechtenstein have agreed to enhance bilateral ties and co-operation between both countries, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, finance and tourism.
The matter was agreed at a meeting between Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and Liechtenstein Foreign Affairs, Education and Culture Minister Dr Aurelia Frick during his two-day working visit to Vaduz, which ended yesterday.
The visit was aimed at getting support for Malaysia’s nomination to sit as a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council for the period of 2015-2016, said the ministry in a statement here today.
The statement said, during the meeting with Frick, Anifah promoted the Malaysia’s initiative on the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) while Frick raised suggestions to negotiate the agreement on the double taxation agreements (DTA) with Malaysia.
Anifah also made a courtesy call on Prince Alois, the Crown Prince of Liechtenstein, with both sides sharing the view that there was good potential to further strengthen bilateral co-operation, especially in the four areas mentioned.
The visit was the first by Malaysia’s foreign minister to Liechtenstein since the two countries forged diplomatic relationship in 2004.
After Liechtenstein, Anifah headed to the Slovenia Republic for a three-day visit.
