Tax man agrees: Large fortunes need probing to nab dodgers
Santo Domingo.- Internal Taxes (DGII) director Guarocuya Feliz on Sunday agreed with Institutional and Justice Foundation (FINJUS) vice president Serbio T. Castaños that large fortunes need to be investigated over tax evasion.
“This position is in line with the work the institution carries out to eliminate banking secrecy to ensure transparency in tax matters,” the official said in a statement.
He said given the agency´s concern to make Dominican society more decent, the DGII expects Finjus´ solidarity to discuss the necessary steps to ensure transparency on reforms in society´s entire public and private sectors, especially on tax responsibilities.
Actions
Among the actions for transparency by the DGII the official stressed the government´s international commitments to exchange information, which in his view is as real challenges for society.
Feliz said the DGII works with the US Treasury to enforce the US law Foreign Account Tax Compliance –FATCA- by exchanging information, among other efforts for transparency.
